Testing for the sulfate ion

An interactive animation showing how a precipitation reaction can be used to test for the presence of the sulfate ion. Barium nitrate or barium chloride is added to a salt dissolved in dilute nitric acid. Click the highlighted areas to reveal the results of the precipitation reaction.
